What I eat in a day & exercise – 4 stone down.

January 19, 2022

I’ve shared before about my weight loss and fitness journey and now I’m officially  4 stone down I thought I would share what my day-to-day looks like. Ideally, I still want to lose a little bit more but now I’m taking things slower and focusing on getting fitter and stronger instead. So here’s what I eat, how I exercise etc on an average day.

Breakfast – When I wake up I have a coffee from my Tassimo machine (80cals) and that’s it until slightly later. Bad I know but I just cannot stomach breakfast before 9am. I do the normal school routine and then I drop the girls off at school. On Mondays and Fridays, I aim to run at least 5k. And the other 3 days I go for a walk that’s normally around 4.8k. These all burn between 220 to 330 cals. When I’m home I make myself a cup of tea (40cals) and I eat a Fibre One Bar (87 cals). I told you I’m really not much of a breakfast person. I also try to drink my whole bottle of water before I pick Norah up from nursery just before lunch.

Lunch – On run days I hit 10k steps before picking up Norah from nursery but on walk days I have hit around 8.5k steps by now. Lunch is either homemade soup and rice cakes (400cals) or low-fat hummus bagel, pretzels, and fruit (283cals). We then either go out for a walk, meet friends for coffee or stay in. Before the school run, I tend to have another Tassimo coffee or cup of tea (40-80cals). I have also hit between 11 and 12k steps before we head back out to pick Edith up. I also drink another full bottle of water over lunchtime and the afternoon.

Dinner – I love a bigger dinner, this is the time when I get really hungry! We eat a lot of different meals – satay noodles, curry, pasta dishes, wraps, and homemade chips. I always make sure to include a lot of veg or salad during dinner time. Dinner normally comes in around 600 cals. I drink another bottle of water by the time we’ve finished dinner, hitting my quota of 2.5l. I get the final steps in clearing the dinner things away and tidying the house ready for bedtime.

Snacks – And this is where I save my calories for. I need a little snack or two in the evening! I tend to have a Pepsi Max or a cup of tea. And then a chocolate bar, creme egg, or sweets. And then something savory too or a yogurt. I use up around 300-400 calories on my snacks – that does include my afternoon coffee and if I have a piece of fruit then too!)

Total Calories for the day: Around 1530 cals

Extra calories burned for the day: 550 – 800 cals

I hope that is somewhat useful. I’ve been calorie counting, walking more, and running since April 2021 and it’s been a slower process but I’m not left with any saggy skin, I still enjoy plenty of treats. There’s no such thing as bad food and if we do have takeaway etc I make sure I burn more calories to counteract that. It’s truly become a way of life now and not some restrictive diet I can’t keep up with.
