The final but arguably the most important instalment, birthday party food. Bear themed of course. I’ll start with the most labour intensive the birthday cake. I used my go to recipe, the one I’ve been making since Edith’s first birthday, you can find the recipe here.

I topped the cake with the DIY Animal Topper I made. Then onto the cupcakes. These were one of my favourites. So simple but they looked so good. I used a Betty Crocker cake mix and chocolate icing. Then some edible googly eyes, I trimmed down a Jaffa cake to just the jelly with a malteaser “glued” with the chocolate icing on top. I then used Giant chocolate buttons for the ears. They looked so good and tasted amazing too!

The bear paw biscuits went down a treat on the sweet party food table too. Again another super simple recipe but they looked so good.  We served shop bought brownie squares and meringues to be the “thick ooozy mud” and “the swirling whirling snowstorms” from We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.

We needed something for the swishy swishy grass and my husband had the idea of colouring white chocolate green and dipping breadsticks into it.  They tasted AMAZING!

My favourite things out of all the birthday party food? The Bear Trail Mix and Bear Mallows. The trail mix idea came from Amy  and oh my goodness it went down a treat. It was a mix of Twirl bites, Malteasers, Aero Bubbles, Chocolate Buttons, White Chocolate Buttons, Malteaser Buttons and mini teddy bear biscuits. I made the teddy bears using these cutters  and using the dough from the bear paws recipe. It gave me enough to make the paws and plenty of bears.

My next favourite was chocolate dipped marshmallows. I popped two marshmallows together on a skewer, dipped into melted chocolate and then placed a bear on the top. I laid the skewer on baking paper while setting in the fridge (so the back was flat, however this made no difference). They were so good and the kids loved them too!

Of course no birthday party food table is complete without a beige buffet. We served Norah’s favourites. Plenty of crisps, pork pies, chicken nuggets, pizza, fries, dips, porkpies and cold meats. My mum made sausage rolls in the shape of bear claws. As always I over catered but guests left with plates of food.

It really was a lovely birthday party and I’ve loved writing up all these posts. You can find all the party posts here

A rose gold bear themed party? Nailed it haha. It’s taken me so long to get this post live. It’s been sitting here ever since and then the world kinda turned upside down and I forgot! But I’ve still got so much to share. Today’s post is all about bear and rose gold themed decor for a birthday party.

When I set out the idea of a bear theme, it was because Norah adores “We’re going on a bear hunt”, I knew I wanted it to be done nicely. So I tracked down some new bits and some pieces we already had to make it look perfect for her party.

Most of the rose gold pieces we already had leftover from my Mum’s birthday party 2 years ago. The rose gold flower garland we got for Edith’s birthday from Ginger Ray.

We used our own helium pump to inflate the balloons and the kids loved them!  The 2 balloon was from Asda we wanted a rose gold one but typically they were out of stock but I think the silver worked just a nicely!

We also picked the cake stand up from Amazon too for less than £7. It worked perfectly for the cake and the fact it was plastic meant we didn’t have to worry about the kids knocking in to it as much!

The bear cake topper was one I made myself, you can see my tutorial here. The acrylic personalised cake topper was a beautiful gift from @WildoneandI .

I had seen the idea of serving milkshakes from the bear bottles on Pinterest but I found it hard to find any UK suppliers. I tracked some down in the end and only paid around £10 for the bottles and postage combined from Thorne . These went down so well and the girls love to have drinks out of them even now.

The paper straws were from Amazon and worked perfectly in the drinks. We also picked up a pastel party set, full of cups, plates and napkins. They worked perfectly alongside the Meri Meri Bear Napkins.

It was such a lovely family party, I do have to admit when it comes to parties I go big but I absolutely love putting everything together! A rose gold bear themed party would be a  lovely theme for a lockdown birthday too.

I have one more post coming all about the food (you’ve already seen the bear paw biscuits!) and it’s a great one, so make sure you pop back for that later this week!

In the first of the party blog posts. I thought I would share a super simple DIY that I created for Norah’s cake topper. As we had a bear hunt themed birthday party I of course went for a bear, but you could use any animal you liked.

One of the best things about this DIY is that it cost me the grand total of £7 which is a lot cheaper than some animal cake toppers. So if you’re wanting to create your own party animal cake topper then follow the instructions below!

For this DIY you will need:

An animal of your choice – I used this bear (aff link)

Pom poms – You can pick these up from a discount shop (Poundland, B&M etc)

A wallpaper sample – You can pick these up from DIY shops, discount stores, homeware stores and small amounts are free to take! (of course check first)

Super glue

Ribbon, trim etc

Step one – Trace around a small circle, I used a roll of washing tape. Cut out the circle and then cut the circle to the middle. Like so.

Step two – Roll the paper into a cone shape to create a mini party hat. You may need to trim it down a little to get the right size for your animal.

Step three – Glue the hat in place using a small amount of super glue. Then glue the pom pom on top. Spread a thin amount of super glue around the base of the hat and place on top of your animal. I went for over one ear! Hold in place for a minute to ensure it’s stuck on well.

Step four – Use leftover ribbon, trim etc to create a tutu or other accessories. Glue those into place. Leave to set and ta-da! One super simple Party Animal Cake Topper.

And it’s as simple as that! Easy enough to give it a go yourself. The gorgeous “Norah is two” cake topper was kindly gifted from @wildoneandi .
