Last March I decided to write down my stats every month. It’s a great way to see how you’ve grown each month. In March 2017 I had 1,732 followers on Instagram. At the time of writing I currently have 5,623. Although it’s not ground breaking and people gain tens of thousands of followers in that time. It’s still an increase of 3,891 followers. I’m pretty proud of how my Instagram has grown and I thought I would share exactly how I did it and how you can Grow Your Instagram.
Finding Your Style.
I think this in all honesty is the biggest one. When I first started my Instagram account if was purely for fun and to show snaps of my day. It’s grown a lot since then and now Instagram is a huge part of my job. Within the space of the last 6 months I feel like I’ve been heading towards finding my style. Then after Christmas, after taking 4 days off, something clicked. I had just found my style. The ideas of what to photograph just kept coming and have done since.
I still share snaps of my life but it’s curated. With finding your style you’ll find that it just clicks and that ideas will keep flowing. It will just fit in with your life. Of course there will still be off days but take a day off and get back on it tomorrow.
Once you’ve found your style your gallery will have a “curated” look which means that followers will know exactly what they are getting. For example I post pretty photographs but I like to keep things real with the captions. Do you remember the post about toddler poop and duplo bricks?
Post Your Best Content.
This next point leads very nicely off the last. Post your best photographs. I know a lot of people say you should post those imperfect photos as that’s real life and of course if that’s what you want to post don’t let me tell you. But if you’re not happy with the photograph you’ve posted chances are the rest of the online world won’t either. You need to have confidence in what you post, because on a basic level if you don’t believe in yourself then no one else will.
Posting your best content will help you get your photographs noticed. Whether that is by brands or other users who might then give you a shout-out. A little follow Friday mention can really make a huge difference. One day I gained 100 followers in that short time.
Also taking part in Instagram weekend hashtag project could get your photograph noticed which would result is thousands of followers if your profile is looking it’s best!
Engage. Engage. Engage.
How many times have you heard me say this? Engage with others. Make friends. Be nice. I’ve seen people moaning that they don’t have much engagement or new followers but then they are only following 100 people. Maybe you need to try and make yourself some online friends. Build yourself a little community. I absolutely love the online community I’ve created on Insagram. It’s full of the most wonderful Mama’s and creatives.
I will comment on lots of posts everyday. Other people might then click through to your profile and if your profile is looking beautiful chances are they will follow. It’s great to be ice and make friends and it’s great for networking as well!
I’m not going to be one of those people who say you need to comment on 50 posts a day. Just comment on posts you enjoy, go through your explore page, go through the hashtags you use and just speak to other people, you will be able to Grow Your Instagram in no time!!
Another one you guys know how I feel about! Hashtags help you to be seen and if you don’t know how to do it properly you need to get yourself over to this post and start learning! They can really help you to Grow Your Instagram. There are so many weekly hashtags to take part in and you could bag yourself a shout-out which could lead to more followers. It’s all again about taking part in the online community. Join in.
I hope that helps to explain in how I’ve grown my Instagram following in the last year. Hopefully you can take some of these tips on board and you can Grow Your Instagram. Remember it takes a while and if you want to do it will take a little bit of work. Especially when you want to grow your account organically! There’s no bots going on here.
This post has been scheduled in advance whilst I take a little time off to spend with my newborn & family.
