I can’t believe that I’m writing my 16 week pregnancy update already. This pregnancy with baby number two has flown by already and I know the whole pregnancy will be over before I know it. I’m hoping to enjoy every minute. I did these updates every 4 weeks when I was pregnant with Edith and you can read her 16 week pregnancy update here. It’s a lovely thing to look back on and it’s amazing how much you forget.
According to The Bump the baby is the size of an avocado and can now hear my voice, which is rather exciting. It also says that I may be able to feel baby kick from this week, however I’ve been feeling those subtle “butterfly” feelings for a couple of weeks now. I’m sure it won’t be long until I can feel kicks strongly. Baby should measure around 4.6 inches long and weigh just 3.5 ounces.
How I’m feeling
I still haven’t found that magical second trimester glow and energy. I’m so exhausted however I think that may be because I have Edith to keep me busy. My hair is growing at a normal rate and my nails aren’t strong like they were with Edith. I’ve been having a lot of backache but again that comes from lifting Edith in and out of the pushchair.
Heartburn has made an appearance a lot earlier this time too. I’ve been woken up a couple of times in the night with and I find that only a cold glass of milk can soothe it. I’m also been woken up in the night for needing a wee. My bladder seems to have shrunk! Haha.
I’m still having the twinges I talked about in my First Trimester Blog Post but they are less frequent. I’ve found that getting comfortable in bed or even on the sofa in the evenings is already a struggle. I’ve already employed 3 cushions to prop me up in bed. One for my head to prevent heartburn. One under my hips and one between my legs. Oh the joy.
Although I’ve just written three paragraphs moaning about pregnancy I enjoy every minute and it’s such an amazing thing to be able to experience again. I can’t wait for all the kicks to arrive properly, find out the baby’s gender and bond with our little baby.
Weight Gain & Diet
I haven’t got a clue. They don’t weigh you at midwife appointments unless you are overweight to begin with but I don’t feel that I’ve put on loads of weight but I have definitely put some on.
As for diet I’m starting to be able to enjoy healthy foods again and fruit and juice. I’m still put off certain foods and sometimes I’ll eat my dinner and then halfway through decide I can’t eat more from feeling too sick.
I’m not really craving anything specific but sweet things and chips are top of my food list!
Bump & Clothes
I’ve been in maternity jeans since 12 weeks as mine didn’t fit me anymore. They’ve got plenty of room in them for bump though so hopefully they will last the whole pregnancy. I’ve been showing since 12 weeks too and my bump is quite visible although I’m still in that just looking like I’ve had a big dinner stage.
I have my 16 week appointment today. In all honesty I can’t really remember what they do at this appointment. I think they just check urine, blood pressure etc and then ask how I’m feeling. I’m going to mention the cyst they found at the 12 week scan just too see if that needs extra monitoring.
And that’s been my 16 week pregnancy update. Here’s hoping that the next 4 weeks leave me feeling a little better.
